The 12th edition of Defence Expo, a biennial event of the Indian Ministry of defence will be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 10 to 13 March 2022. A memorandum of agreement was signed between the Ministry of Defence and the Government of Gujarat for the event at Kebdia on September 2, 2021, in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Defence Minister and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani jointly reviewed the preparations for Defence Expo 2022.
12th edition of Defence Expo - 2022
Earlier in February 2020, the first edition of the Defence Expo was held in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, was a tremendous success due to the side code between the Government of India and the State Government.
Now the 12th edition of the Defence Expo will be celebrated as "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" on the occasion of 75 years of Independence, which requires more active participation and coordinated efforts at all levels. Expressing satisfaction and ongoing preparations, Raksha Mantri urged all stakeholders to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming program.
The objective of Defence Expo - 2022
Defence Exhibition 2022 aims to create an environment to make India self-reliant in the field of defence and achieve the target of defence exports of USD 5 billion by 2024.
It aims to make India a major destination for land, naval, air, defence engineering, and security systems. The event also aims to recognize the impact of disruptive technologies on conflicts and their consequent impact on the necessary tools and platforms, keeping in mind the war of the future.
The aim of the Gujarat Government is to utilize the opportunity to advance its aerospace and seek foreign investment.
Achievements of Defence Expo - 2020
The Defence Expo - 2020 had an exhibition spread over 75000 square meters in which more than 1,000 exhibitors participated. 70 countries participated in this program with the presence of Defence Ministers of 40 different countries.
During this, 200 partnerships were formed, which gave a tremendous boost to the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. The event was visited by over 1.2 million people, with the unique tent city accommodation being another feature.
After this, India was the first country to organize a hybrid aerospace exhibition Aero India - 2021 in Bangalore in February 2021 in strict coronavirus protocol. Organized by the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, the event saw an overwhelming global response.
