DRDO and IAF successfully test-fired indigenous Long-Range Bomb

The supersonic missile-assisted release of the torpedo was successfully test-fired off the coast of Odisha on Monday. Smart's range of up to 650 km makes it very special.

The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force jointly test-fired an indigenously developed Long-Range Bomb (LRB) from an air platform on October 29, 2021, in the Integrated Test Range in Orissa, Chandipur. The LRB, after being released from an IAF fighter aircraft, hit land-based targets at long ranges with accuracy within specified ranges. All the objectives of the mission were successfully accomplished. The journey and performance of the bomb were monitored by various types of range sensors, including Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS), telemetry, and radar, deployed by the Integrated Test Range in Orissa, Chandipur, and found very accurate and pinpoint Hit.

The LR bomb has been designed and developed by the Hyderabad-based DRDO Laboratory, Research Center Imaran (RCI) in coordination with other DRDO laboratories.

Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, IAF, and other teams involved in the successful flight test and said that it will prove to be a force multiplier for the Indian Armed Forces.

Secretary DDR & D and Chairman DRDO, Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, in his message to the teams, said that the successful flight test of the long-range bomb has marked an important milestone in the indigenous development of this class of systems that will be deployed on combat ships.

The SMART missile is a lighter version of the torpedo system, which will be deployed on combat ships. It has been prepared after long research in DRDO labs present in other cities including Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam. On Monday 24 October 2021, it was successfully test-fired from Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha at 11.57 am.

Anti-submarine Missile

Smart carries a missile along with a torpedo. It is fitted with a low-weight torpedo. Combined, both make it a supersonic anti-submarine missile. It also has the characteristics of missiles and the ability to destroy submarines. When fully developed, this weapon system will have a range of 650 km. The presence of such a high-range system will put the Indian Navy higher among the most dangerous naval forces in the world.

India on Wednesday successfully test-fired the BrahMos surface-to-surface cruise missile in Baleshwar. It has been developed with the joint effort of DRDO and Russian scientists. This supersonic missile has the ability to hit its target at a speed of 2.8 times the speed of sound. This missile can be fired in any direction and towards the target in any way desired. This missile is adept at hitting small targets accurately even in densely populated areas. The BrahMos missile is 8.4 meters long and 0.6 meters in width. Its weight is 3000 kg.
