Pankaj Kumar Singh, a 1998 batch IPS officer, has been
appointed as the new Director-General of
Border Security Force (BSF). About 27 years ago, his father Prakash
Singh has also taken over the responsibility of this post.
Pankaj Singh, 58 years old, is an officer of the Rajasthan cadre and is still handling the responsibility of Special DG of BSF. Pankaj Singh is currently working as Special DG in the New Delhi Head Quarter of BSF.
He will take over as the Director-General of BSF on 31 August 2021. BSF's new DG Pankaj Singh's father and retired IPS officer Prakash Singh, who has been the Director-General of Border Security Force (BSF), has to be known for the steps taken for police reforms.
Padma Shri awardee father Prakash Singh was also the DG of BSF from 1993 - 94
Prakash Singh was the DG of BSF from 1993-94 and is honored with Padma Shri.
Now after nearly three decades, his son Pankaj Singh will also take over the
responsibility of BSF DG. Pankaj has worked in the Rajasthan Police as well as
in the CBI, during which he exposed a notorious sex scandal that shook Jammu
and Kashmir, apart from explaining many cases related to corruption.
Border Security Force (BSF)
The Border Security Force (BSF) was established in 1965 with the special
purpose of protecting the Indian borders after the Indo-Pakistani War. It is
one of the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) of India under the
administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Line of Control (LoC). It consists of an Air Wing, Marine Wing,
Artillery Regiment, and Commando Unit.
The Sunderban Delta in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is guarded by the
Border Security Force (BSF) through its spiritual ships. BSF also plays a
very important role in maintaining law and order and helping the state
administration in conducting peaceful elections.
Apart from this, the Border Security Force (BSF) works to save human lives
during natural calamities when required. It also sends a large contingent of
trained personnel each year to United Nation peacekeeping missions.
The Border Security Force (BSF) is also known as the first line of defense
against infiltration, smuggling, and military attacks.
