Recently the "Army Selection Board" has approved the promotion of officers who have completed 26 years of service to the rank of Colonel. This is the first time that women officers serving in the "Core of Signal", "Core of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME)" and "Core of Engineers" have been approved for promotion to the rank of Colonel.
Earlier, the system of promotion to the rank of colonel for women was applicable only in "Army Medical Corps (AMC)", "Judge Advocate General (JAG)" and "Army Education Corps (AEC)".
The decision to promote five women officers to the rank of colonel comes after the Supreme Court's decision to allow women candidates to appear in the NDA's entrance examination to the "National Defense Academy" for promotion to other branches of the Indian Army. More opportunities will be available for the officers.
It is worth noting that the Army, Air Force, and Navy had started inducting women as Short Service Commissioned (SSC) officers. This was the first time that women were allowed to join the military.
An important for women in the army, the Indian Air Force decided to induct Indian women into the combat team.
