INS Visakhapatnam, a P15B Stealth Guided-Missile Destroyer, has been sent into the Indian Navy at Naval Dockyard Mumbai on 21 November 2021.

It is the first of the four 'Visakhapatnam' category destroyers. It is designed by the Directorate of Naval Design (Doctorate of Naval Design), an in-house organization of the Indian Navy, and manufactured by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.

INS Visakhapatnam has a length of 163 meters, a width of 17 meters, and a displacement of 7,400. It was approved in the presence of Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh.

When was INS Visakhapatnam formed?

  • 2011 Project - 15B gets approval.
  • 2013 Construction started at Mazagon Dock Limited.
  • 2015 Visakhapatnam was launched.
  • Basin trials of 2020 Visakhapatnam completed.
  • 2021 Visakhapatnam handed over to Navy.
